Here are some finished photos of an Aluminum gas tank for a 51 jeep that a guy is rebuilding. It's 12" x 12" x 35" made out of 1/8" aluminum treadbrite.  I cut all the pieces with my trusty skill saw then I broke two half's on a sheet metal bender.  There are two weld-on bungs, one 1/4" on the top for a vent and a 3/8" one on the bottom for a drain.  The top was reinforced with 1/2" plate, tapped out for an aluminum flip up style gas cap.  And angles welded to the sides to the tank will rest on the fender-wells of the jeep.  I found that my welds looked a bit funky with having to go over all the tread points, but overall it came out pretty nice. Reply:i noticed you have done a few fuel cell threads and was wondering if you do this typde of work often?...i'm looking at getting one made for my s1o but no one around here is trustworthy enough for me to deal with...i need one that's 24"x12"x10" made of aluminum or stainless...cost is a factor but i do know time=money...just figured i'd ask and thanks if you get the chance to replydidn't mean to jack your thread also!
Reply:nice work, do you put baffles in the tanks that size?
Reply:Build time was about 4.5 hours at $75 an hour.  And 14 square feet of 1/8" treadbrite was about 120 bucks... it was a tight bid.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Nice looking job Brian.Do you put baffles inside the tank. I have build similar ones from steel and had to add baffles to help keep the fuel at the pickup when on ruff trainMiller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.

Reply:Baffles are plates welded inside to stop the fuel from washing about, which leads to fuel starvation.
Reply:That was an unfortunate oversite on several of our parts.  But as it turns out, this is a show truck so it wont be offroad or road racing.  I don't think there will be much of a problem with fuel starvation.-MikeCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
