Mailbox Stand

Reply:Looks nice. Is the box sitting on a plate?  Is it bolted on?  Just curious how you did it.
Reply:Thanks. It is sitting on a 1/2" thick steel plate and tacked in the corners, from underneath, which is a bit of an overkill, but the plate was already attached to the pipe so I left it.Last edited by MEWelding.com; 06-11-2008 at 10:26 AM. Reply:I will be building a mail box soon and I will use 1/4" plate the kids in our area love mail box bashing. Reply:The way we do it here in South Carolina is after about the 3rd box being bat bashed, we buy a big box and a small or normal box then put the small box inside the big box and fill in all around the space between the big and small box with sackcrete. You know the quick mix or ready mix concrete that all you do is add water. It makes for one hell-of -a bat killer.
Reply:Mailbox bashing seems to be a bored teen's favorite pastime. We had a rash of these up until one of the guys at work got tired of replacing his mailboxes. He built one out of 11ga. stainless steel. Including the post. Shortly after he installed his custom mailbox, his wife heard a bang followed by a scream. The wife found a busted ball bat in thier yard ... no damage to the mailbox .. since then there has not been anymore bashed mailboxes on his road. On average, 3 to 4 stainless mailboxes are built a month by our employees. You might say that the Stainless mailboxes are a hit ...

Reply:I wonder if you could build one out of rubber or urethane, something that would really return the bat's energy to where it rightfully belongs!
