I have a low pressure hydraulic line on a tractor I'm restoring that has rusted through.I'm wanting to add material to the area using either 7018 or 6010.  I don't want to blow it out more, but I want the material to have sufficient penetration.  I'd like some advice as to starting current to try, and any other tips that may help. The line is 1" diameter, low pressrure return line, mild carbon steel.  I have cleaned up the area.  No paint or rust.Using Miller Maxstar 200.
Reply:In the past ive cleaned the area as good as possible and braze with bronze.  This has been only good for a temp repair as holes usually start apearing further up or down the line.
Reply:Thanks Larry.  Good point.  I was debating on going to a hose with proper fittings attached.  Your reply is making me lean that way even more.
Reply:Hydralic hose with crimp fittings is a good option if you cant find a new hard line to put on, but the braze option is quick and will do you for at least 2+weeks or more until you get the new rubber line made.Last edited by LarryO; 03-14-2011 at 07:29 PM.
Reply:Since this is a restore and not an emergency repair, don't even consider patching. You should consider replacing all of the lines, especially if they have rusted from the inside out.If a job is worth doing, ...................
Reply:Missed the restore bit.
