I wasn't sure where to ask this so I apologize if it is in the wrong section.On a welding symbol, if depth, weld symbol, length and pitch are given on arrow side, but only depth and welding symbol are given on the other side, am I to assume that the length and pitch are the same as on arrow side?TIA
Reply:No, it should be specified on both sides. I would assume its continuous, but ask for clarification anyways.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:I can't really ask for clarification as it is on a take home midterm test, lol. I can't seem to find it in my blueprint reading book, either, and I am assuming I am just missing it. I tried to draw it in paint and post a picture, I apologize for it looking so crappy, my paint skills leave much to be desired. The question is worded as: The length of the fillet weld, arrow-side is _________.
Reply:Oh and I know in my original question I switched the arrow-side/other-side specs but I didn't think I'd be posting a picture and didn't think it mattered if I switched it around, was just making it sound "easier"
Reply:I would say that the weld is going to be as long as the length of the piece the arrow side is referring too. Unless it is talking about the leg length.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:IMHO the 1/2" fillet weld would be the length of the joint it points to until it changes direction. I.e. one leg of an angle, one flange or web of a beam, one side of a tube etc.....Mike
Reply:If I was on the job, I would weld that half all out, given that symbol. It is unusual that there is not a length, or the "all around" symbol.In all seriousness, I would call shenanigans on that question.
Reply:How I read that symbol would be a 1/8" fillet 2" on 5"center on the arrow side, and a 1/2" fillet weld on the other side, full lenth because it has no lenth/ pitch specified. on prints I jenerally see it specified on both sides of the base line if they specify a lenth/ pitch specified. if the weld symbols are offset than you offset the welds from each other. (find center of the joint and lay the welds out for the first side from that point, then the other side off center bu splitting the pitch.)Hope this helpedTravis

Reply:I/8 fillet 2-5 on OTHER SIDE......1/2 fillet till it changes direction on ARROWSIDE....So answer to your question would be....Total length of weld seam until direction changes....
