Ok I'm a 7018 guy but I know 6013 electrodes get less penetration and they were designed for sheet metal. so my question is can i weld thiner metaril then say a 3/32 7018 rod. This would be on a hobbiest ac 225 welder.
Reply:I have successfully used 3/32 6013 on mild steel that was 16 ga. Lap joint. Can't remember the exact setting. It wasn't easy but I welded it a little cold and "stitch welded" about 4 ft. until I had a continous weld the full length. This was done with a Lincoln 225AC welder as well. It was for a drip pan in a pig cooker.Ecave
Reply:I did a 20 guage fender repair one time with 3/32 6013 rods. Used a Lincoln AC/DC arc welder set on the lowest AC setting. You have to make sure there are no thin spots where you are welding it. You have to do quick tacks and keep moving from one end to the other so that you don't burn through or warp the metal.Neil
Reply:Thanks guys I was just curious...I didn't realize you could sitck weld material that thin without blowing a hole right through it!
Reply:I have also done 20 guage with 3/32" 6013.
