Ok here we go! I drove 3 hours to take a pipeline test...grant you this is my first test on the firing line...grant you not my first test as a welder. Got over to the welding foreman he was going to put first in line so I could test. In other words, my test was on the firing line. simple test yes. Then it went down hill after that. He walks up to and asked if I had any certs on me, I told him no. The I couldn't test till I had certs. Question is, I was understanding that I was suppose to take the test on the firing line... if I pass the x-ray test shouldn't be a cert? At any rate...didn't test have to find my cert now from a previous job that closed down. What are your thoughts on this?
Reply:My thoughts are I would bring any past certs I have or had in the past weather they are expired or still valid. It will prove to any potential employer that you have some ability to do the job. That will sometimes be what you need to get another test. Go into the test knowing how to weld the pipe they want you to weld. Don't go into the test learning.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:I agree with you. Problem is last employer screwed all the welders around and the IRS locked the doors with my certs in there. Now what do I do?
Reply:You didn't get your own copy of your prior certs?I have always demanded and recieved my own copy of any certs I have had even though it was the employer who paid for the tests.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
