Hi I am new to this site, the question I have is does anyone have any experience with the import multiprocess welders from china. Looking for views both pro and con. I would only be using a welder for hobby work. Thank You Finn McCool
Reply:Right now, other than a couple of folks here that have them...many of them remain relatively unknown and untested. Which one are you looking at in particular? Only a couple of folks here have the Riland brand...I know this is just a name and that the same company builds those welders under several names. I think these welders get sold a lot in Europe and Australia.Last edited by smithboy; 03-30-2006 at 07:24 AM.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:The first thing I think about when dealing with chinese hardware is serivice and support. A Bridgeport clone is not a big deal as it hasn't changed much in many years and many of the clones are %100 cpoies so parts are not an issue.A welder (especially ineverters) are a differrent beast in my opinion and I would only consider such a machine if service and support where avialable locally. Sure this is not as critical for home base usage but none the less this is a big investment. The other considerations such as arc quality and performance in various modes I can't comment on as I don't have one nor acces to one. So hopefully users of these machines will chime in. As to my recent welder purchase, I went with a Lincoln MiIG for a number of reasons actually. One of them was that the welding supply house is just a short drive down the road and Lincoln has an excellent web site by which they support the machines. This may sound strange to some but I will not make use of a company that can't do its web site right. So I have to ask is there a some sort of web portal for support of the machine you are looking at? Another reason is that I spent a long time trying to find a used machine locally with no luck.Lastly I have to say something about the desire to buy American. It is one thing to look for imported products when your local producers screw up (the auto industry) it is another thing to just get the cheapest item on the market and not look at the big picture. At least with the Lincoln I'm in some manner supporting a domestic manufacture that produces a very good product. I'm not so focuseed on this that I'm willing to buy American made junk, but if there is only a few percent differrence in price for equal quality why not go American!Al that being said I did see a report once form a site down under about a chinese welder that was for the most part very positive. If you can afford to ignore the issues above and can actually figure out who the good manufacture is, it might be something to consider. Personally I wouldn't go that route because I don't want to destroy anymore American industry and I don't want to be in the position of being on the test crew.Thanksdave
Reply:The Riland was the company that i was looking at they have a multiprocess machine tig plasma cutter and rod burner in one. Next question is are these machines ulc or csa certified. The price just seems to good for a three in one ?
Reply:http://www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread...ghlight=rilandI am not advocating that you buy one of these. That's a decision for you to make. I am, however, always curious about how welders perform and any information you are able to obtain would be interesting to me.Last edited by smithboy; 03-30-2006 at 07:24 AM.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:We have a similar desire down here to protect local manufacturers. It's hard, though, to do this when the imports are sometimes half the price. With cut off saws, drills etc, the retailer will exchange the Chinese ones without a question if there is a problem with them.I'd say when people are looking at purchases $400+ they're less inclined to buy Chinese. I bought a Chinese cut off saw because I didn't have one and I was going to hire one to do a project. Buying one was cheaper than a weekend's hire and it's still going 2 years later.

Reply:I know he is trying to be a dealer. I think he has some kind of deal with another guy. i don't think he has a real good pipeline for them yet. I'm sure he can get you one but I don't know how long it will take. I'm guessing at this but I suspect they don't order untill they pretty well have orders for most of the container ( Or whatever quanity you to order as an importer.) I do know when looking at the Rung-Fu mill drills is anyone can order direct from the factory. The nice folks at Rung-Fu even tell you how many come in a container! I believe container lot is min order for mill drills. I dont know about the welders as you could get a lot of those little suckers in one container. Reply:Opps sorry should have been more clear in my first post, there is a company in china that sells welders and plasma cutters they now have a multifunction welder ie: three in one machine tig welder, stick welder, and a plasma cutter.By there infrmation its good for light gauge steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. I am having a hard time of finding anyone who has tried one and what they have to say about the welder.make is "Riland" from china the machine is a RilCT416 Multipurpose. Web site is www.rilandusa.comThis welder would suit my needs well if, it works ok. but this is the majic question with most equipment comming over from china.Bashin metal is a passion not just a living eh!
Reply:RilandUSA is a sham site run by the importer of Riland machines.Go to the AWS site, and you can find the real Riland site.Do NOT be taken in.Go to eBay, and click seller's other items when you're looking at the Riland machines. This seller is NOT a welding machine vendor.Be very careful before spending money.
