Went to do some work yesterday and I noticed the gas didn't stop when I released the triger. Called Airgas and they have a replacement valve. Trouble is, I need to work on a project this weekend. Any thoughts on how to get around the problem?
Reply:Since the solenoid is a normally closed operation, it could be you ended up with a little bit plastic shaving or assembly trash that drifted to the face of the valve over time. You could take the solenoid off, reconnect the two leads, with a case ground jumper, operate it with the trigger and back blow with air set low. Two man operation I'd guess. If you have plenty of gas you could get several welds prepped and ready, crack the tank valve weld for a minute or three then shut it off. Doesn't really need to be wide open any way other than they are a back seating valve. There could be a minute amount of leakage in the partially open position. Not enough to hurt on a short term basis. An 80 cf tank gives you about 4 to 6 hours of trigger time??
Reply:check the gun to see if any slag got into the contacts , I had the same problem with one that I work with .and I took the gun apart and there was a piece of slag stuck in one of the 2 contact points in the triger mech. |
