I have been prcticing just running or trying to run some beads. I am running them on .088 steel .What I am geetting is either what looks like bird droppings or I get a sink hole or blow holes. On this practice I was using an HF dual mig 151 on poer setting high min or 3. I was using a wire feed of 4. I thought it looked good through the glass but it was sunk so I cut the feed to 2 and it started to stutter. I probably should have cleaned the metal better. Here are the pictures the second and third one is the back side of the welds Attached Images
Reply:I'm not no expert, but i seems that there is still paint. I suggest better prep. And possibly a better machine. (I'm no one to talk i'm using a Chinese off brand...lol but if i had the money i would go blue all the way.).... IMO
Reply:Mig and paint does not like each other. I work in production welding and have to repair things after powder coating the parts. major problems if you do not get all paint off. i am not familiar with the HF welders but if i had this at work to weld on i would use 20 volts and maybe 200 on the wire feed. i use a MM 302, .035 wire, mixed gas. i would just clean your test piece and try one more time. move a little quicker and see if that helps the blow through.

Reply:Thanks for the replies. I will cut the piece off I was working on. Then take my grinder and thouroughly clean both sides with a flapper then acetone and try again. I showed it to our welder here at work and he suggested I speed up a little but not too much however since he mostly does stick and tig he couldn't give me a lot of avice other than to practice practice practice. Thanks again. |
