Well, Ive been playing with the new welder, sp-135+, and having a good time. Built a welding table, made a few mistakes, but gained knowledge of the machine and my capabilities. Then, dad ask's bring the welder over, he has a bracket he needs welded to his boat trailer so we can mount another roller. I will stop a little short of saying it was fun to weld upside down while laying on my back in the driveway, but it did present a new challenge. Ithink I lost three feet of wire when a bb fell between the trigger and gun. The roller is not load bearing, just a guide. If pratice makes perfect, I will need alot of pratice. Great forum, thanks for all the tips and advice in other threads.
Reply:lol  great post there JpaulYEs the overhead seperates the men from the boys.  However, once you get it down, and understand the basic concept, wire is by far the easiest.  Just lower your heat..ie your wire speed.  It will make overhead much easier.  If its vertical, you can do vertical up by doing the same.  Vert down I uusally use same heat as for flat.  Less penetration than going up, but faster.  Sounds like youre having fun thats the most important partKeep it realIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:Hi JpaulIt's fun ain't it   I hope you disconnected the battery on the boat first......Stephen
Reply:Ive welded on trucks, tractors, boats, forktrucks, pickers, you name it and never once bothered disconnecting the battery... oh well never gave me a lick of trouibleIF it Catches...Let it Burn

Reply:Ive got no probelm with tig ...unless theres no remote..than youre back to square one.  WIth remote you just watch the pudle....without remote..you watch the puddle and you move like heck or you slow down depending on whats happeningIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:I've got a couple of truck owner's that I do work for and they go nut's if you leave the battery hooked up.   Also within reason you should have the earth as close as possible to where your welding, it can be hard on bearing's running an arc through them otherwise. With the battery I work on the theory that it's better to be safe than sorry.Stephen
Reply:Stephen,I would have to assume when you say earth youre speaking of the work lead or the improper term ground?IF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:Over here we call it the earth, so I assume it's what your talking about TxR.Stephen
Reply:Yeah....just interesting how we can call the same thing by such wild and differnt names...though they are similar in all honesty...just kinda threw me for a minIF it Catches...Let it Burn
