Hey guys ,Looking to but a used 100 Clarke Mig welder but it needs a new gun, they are like over 100 brand new, is there any alternatives or use a different brand gun?
Reply:There are no cheap mig guns. You might check out some welding supply houses. Sometimes they have a salvaged unit or one that can be serviced. The more expensive guns have interchangeable components.
Reply:Problem with that type of machine is the welding gun is a hollow tube or outer cover with a power lead, gas hose, liner, and trigger leads all running inside the outer cover. Also, since most of these machines don't have a gas solenoid valve, there is a valve in the gun.A good quality gun will have a coaxial cable assembly, liner up the center of a tube. between the liner and the tube is where the gas will flow. Wound on the outside of the tube is the wire which carries the welding current and also the trigger wires. Then on the outside of this is a rubber cover. I am not aware of any coaxial cable assembly guns which have gas valves. You would have to do very serious modification to the Clarke 100 to put a good quality welding gun on it - such as replacing the feed motor and installing a gas solenoid valve.I have attached photos of what I believe the machine end of the welding gun looks like and also the wire feeder. Reply:Gibson, what makes you say you need to buy a new gun? Is it possible that your gun could be repaired for less $$?
