I 've got a used Lincoln SP-170T and no experience in welding. I need to weld C channels, C3 and C8 and some other 1/8' mild steel. C channels are about 1/4" thick and I am wondering can I weld it with this welder? Manual is calling .045" innershield wire for 1/4" steel. But to use this wire I need new liner, tip and drive roll, which comes into a kit form for as low as $60. I am wondering could I use .035" innershield wire and multi pass to weld 1/4" steel? How hard it would be for somebody without experience? Should I go for some stronger welder?Help is appreciated!
Reply:Just point the gun at the joint and pull the trigger.  It's just that easy. Two turn tables and a microphone.
Reply:I believe that kit comes with a 10lb spool of wire.I have the same model Lincoln. It is a great machine. For 1/4", I recommend getting the .045 kit. The .035 innershield just does not have enough flux to cover the big weld at full power on 1/4".
Reply:Shovelon,You are wright, it comes with 10lb spool. I'll go that way. thanks for advice.
