I had to do a project today that I never want to do again.Early this morning I heard a racket outside, dogs start barking, I jump up throw on some clothes real quick and go outside to see what's going on. Made it outside in time to watch both of my cats chase a Possum out of the trash can and into the street, the possum made it across, the girls did not. Both of my girls were hit by the same car, both died instantly, both will be missed tremendously. They were sisters and did everything as a team, I figured it best to bury them as a team. They were just barely 4 years old. Here is the Cross I made to mark their Grave site. I made a spot to place their vaccination tags in the center of the cross. You'll notice only one at the moment belonging to Libby hanging there, I will be getting a replacement tag for Matty and placing it on there later as hers was damaged real bad. Reply:First of all let me say that it is never easy to lose a pet you love. I know what that's like. That is a very nice way to remember your loved ones. I am sure they would have liked to rub against it to reach that one itchy spot they can't reach with their paws. Now let me open myself up to the flaming I know I will get.....If you loved your cats so much, why did you let them roam freely? Dogs are required to be on leashes. Cat's should not be allowed to run free. I don't appreciate a cat jumping on my $50,000.00 truck that I just waxed, he loses his footing and deploys the claws of death which can't penetrate the metal but do a real nice job on the wax, clear coat, basecoat and primer. Thank's for the $500.00 repair job. I have a cat. He stays inside. He is loved. But I guarantee you that I have a cat trap and I use it in my yard. I also use my dually wheels when the opportunity strikes. Cat people seem to disregard the piles of cat crap in my yard as MY PROBLEM just as they disregard my scratched truck as MY PROBLEM. For some reason their cats don't crap at their own house. Sorry you lost your cats dude, but you obviously didn't care enough about them to keep them safe inside your house. Cats are like wives. If you don't take care of them at home, somebody else will.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain

Reply:That stinks, they do become part of the family. Nice job on the cross. If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:Joker11, I must admit that I agree with you to a certain degree about cats roaming free, these cats were trained with an invisible fence to stay in the yard. This was the first time in four years that I had seen them leave the property, they usually stayed very close to the house and very rarely did they even go around to the back of the house. I have three lots here where  I live, one with the house, one cleared with grass, and one lot is still wooded, they never went as far as the woods and rarely to the cleared lot and were always within site of the front door when they were out.I am what I am, Deal with it!If necessity is the Mother of Invention, I must be the Father of Desperation!

Reply:Very sorry to hear that dabar. My condolences to you and your family. Cats have been a big part of my life and even tho I lose one every once in a while, I just move on. I live on a dirt road out in the sticks so there is no traffic to worry about. Coyotes, foxes and dogs are my worries....but have you ever seen a cat chase off a deer???...I have
Reply:As kids, my sister and I rescued two newborn cats from a nearby creek years ago; there were four and the mother might even have been feral. Anyway, the female was white, and the male constantly licked her, particularly her ears and she developed cancer there years later. The male got his hip joint broken somehow and the vet said nothing could be done about it; he apparently regrew a ball joint and got around as well as before, although he had an irregular gate when he ran. He enjoyed lying on the grass next to me, grooming my short hair. If he was sunning himself in the yard and a mocking bird came down to scold/tempt him, he turned to look and then went back to sleep; at other times he would climb a telephone pole after a hummingbird, never having a chance to get it. It was all in the chase; he never caught anything. Unlike most cats, he liked everyone and roamed the neighborhood mostly to meet the people who were always asking about adopting him.For your friends, I imagine the temptation of the possum was just too great; the new challenge  was just enough reason to forget the rules. Making the cross of twinned members fits the situation.

Reply:Dave,So sorry for your loss.  We too are cat lovers and had to put down our 14yo male a few years ago and I'm not ashamed to say it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.  When the vet gave us the three choices - county dump, combined weekly cremation or individual cremation - needless to say you can guess which one we chose.  I was raised on a farm where cats were expected to fend for themselves and the vet was called only for the cows but Conway Kitty is still with us and sits atop the living room entertainment center.  He was as much a family member as any of us and definately uses all 13 of his lives which is another story for another time.Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.DuaneMM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Dabar39,I must apologize. My rant was totally out of place. The cross was very nice as I said. The rant about cats didn't belong here and I now realize it. Not only was it out of place but it was ill timed during your grieving period. Please accept my apology as it is sincere. I hope you can find great solace when you see that cross and may your family find my mistake forgivable. To the rest of the members I apologize as well. Reply:Sorry for your loss. I'm not ashamed to say that I always shed tears when one of my pets pass away- my thoughts are with you.Joker11 - you've gained my respect. It's becoming rarer these days to find people acknowledging their mistakes and apologising for it and the sincerity of your apology is shiningly obvious.
Reply:I am not looking forward to the days when I need to face that fact.  Nice tribute(s) and markers

Reply:Sorry about your loss. Cats are my favorite animals and I understand how you feel. My old tomcat disappeared several years ago and I never did find any evidence of what happened to him. Wouldn't get another but a few weeks ago some nice person decided I needed a cat and gave me a fair sized kitten one night. Well, he's really cute and friendly and he's named Oreo, thanks to my grand daughter. No more dogs either. When it came time to take our last dog for his final visit to the vet I couldn't do it. My wife did it.

Reply:My condolences and sympathy for your loss.Though I have no kitties now, house cats are my favorite pet.  I have lost a few over the years and am familiar with the loss.  They are friends, companions, and entertainers.  And as in your case they are working animals too.  It is sad that they perished "in the line of duty."I like the memorial you created.  I can't say I ever did that.  All mine were burried in unmarked graves.  Not lost or forgotten, but not disturbed. My sister has four aging house cats.  Living on a very busy road at a blind curve she has kept them sequestered indoors for their safety.  But we know they will not be here forever.  Your memorial will  provide inspiration when the time comes.-MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.

Reply:I had to put my cat of 19 yrs down last winter a few days before Xmas.  I know how it feels.  I'm hesitant on getting another pet only because I can't endure the time when I have to part with them for good.  Pretty backwards thinking actually - the fact that the heartbreak of missing them justifies just not getting one in the first place."A winner isn't someone who doesn't lose, a winner is someone who doesn't quit."
