Welding Coated Titanium

I'm not a weldor, so I promise the any terminology I'm about to use is almost certainly wrong. Ok. Now, I have a titanium tube that's going to be welded inside another tube I'd like to coat the both with TiNi or a process real silimar. I'm not sure if Ti can be anodized, but if it can, has anyone welded Ti through a coating like TiNi? Is there a coating that could be welded through? I'm aware Ti must be kept extremely clean when welding so my concern is contaminates. I figure if it's grade9 Ti and TiNi maybe it could work?Last edited by jnz; 04-29-2011 at 06:51 PM.
Reply:I did some looking around and so far there is no evidence of anodized titanium..Do the welding first then send out for TiNi.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Ti is renowned for it's corrosion resistance. Why would you need to coat it??And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Wear resistance.It doesn't wear very well.  On sliding surfaces in particular.
Reply:Yes, wear resistance is the main issue. I'll plan on welding with it not coated since Ti seems to be finicky being pure when welding. I'm not sure if I'll be able to coat afterwords or not, there may be pockets that anodizing won't be able to be removed from. I'll research more. I have a larger issue to deal with right now anyhow. Making a post on that next.
