I was looking at the Lincoln PM 215, which would suit my needs for capabilities. I notices it has 7 tap voltages, where the PM255 has continuous voltage settings, which I'M more familiar with. Is it worth the extra $500 for the PM255 to get the fine tuning with continuous control (power aside)? Thanks David

Reply:Thanks, they have them on Ebay, you have to search for the "power Mig 255C", without the "C" the search doesn't find them (took me a while to figure it out). Lowest I found was $1889 with free shipping:http://cgi.ebay.com/LINCOLN-POWER-MI...QQcmdZViewItemBTW found a cool ebay search engine for looking up items that are spelled incorrectly, good way to bid on things other people that CAN spell can't findhttp://www.gumshoo.com/I hate buying things only regretting not having the features I want, but I also hate spending money
Reply:I've heard lots more about the MM210, which is the same class of machine. It, too, has 7 taps, and is considered one of the finest machines you can buy if it handles the thicknesses you are doing. I would think the Lincoln's 7 taps should be sufficient, as well.If it has enough taps (as these units do) there is little advantage to infinitely variable voltage setting. If you know you'll never need the added capability of the bigger welder, I wouldn't let the taps be a deal breaker. The fine tuning is in the wire speed anyway.
Reply:ThanksI've read all the MM210 vs PM215 posts and it seems like the consensus is the Miller, and since it'll match my TIG color-wise, I guess that'll be the way to go. If you read Lincoln's and Miller's comparisons, you would think they are a night and day difference...I guess that's why the marketing guys get the big bucks.David |
