Hey guys whats up my name is jeremy and i have recently dropped out of high school i never really enjoyed school besides seeing my friends and playing baseball i have always enjoyed working and earning my money but theres is really no good paying jobs without having a high school diploma i really have no interest in going back to school i am ready to start working i really want to get into welding (GO TO TRADE SCHOOL) and start learning the trade but beside all that my question to you is it required to have your diploma or ged to work as a welder
Reply:I would say yes, most jobs are going to want a GED/Diploma.  A lot of it depends on the company.  Small little shops may not care, big corporations will.

Reply:There are no hard and fast answers; it all depends on the school and their requirements.  Part of learning any kind of work is "paying your dues", for most things you might want to do as an adult you will be asked about your education.  What I read in your introduction was that "if it isn't fun; I don't want to do it."If you can get a regular HS Diploma, you will be ahead of the guy with the GED.  The guy with the GED is ahead of the drop out.  The HS Diploma does not mean you are educated; it means you are teachable and can "hang in there and see a projet through to the end"  The project is getting you through High School.Yes, some adult educational programs will accept you if you have not graduated.   Because you have not told us where you are, I doubt if anyone can give you specific answers.  Good Luck, you are going to need it.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. Reply:get into trade school, get your GED (night classes, or just sign up and take the test) get into school. Traditional school isn't for everyone (like me) but if you know how to fix other people problems, you'll always have something to do. as far as GED vs. HS diploma, as long as you have trade school after the GED, it won't make a difference. (BTW, I got my GED in Arizona 15+ years ago. I was sick of high school halfway through ninth grade and I bet my mom I could pass the GED. I did.)   also, the trade school I went to and most that I know of require a GED, but talk to an enrollment counsler, most of them will work with you and help you get your ducks in a row.
Reply:All I'll say is if you just want burn rods/wire all day every day, you might have a chance once you learn how to do those two things. If you want to be a welder/ fabricator, then there'll always be some, if not a lot of, math required to do the job. Plane and solid geometry, trig and just plain everyday math. If you really want to be good welder, I suggest you go back to high school and soak up all the math possible, otherwise you'll wind up on a production line all day, every day.                                             JMHO,                                                         MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:I suggest you go back to school and soak up English language PUNCTUATION.  Being able to write to where others can understand what you are wanting to communicate is very important not just in jobs... but in all of life these days.Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
Reply:Just because you dont care for school is not aa good reason to drop out. You can make money while in school. I worked 40 hrs a week while keeping b honor roll through high school. Try to find classes that fit your likes. Find a tech math class that applies math to real world stuff. I"m sure there are other classes like this. English will be important if you want to do bidding or proposals. Try art classes it will help creativity and allow you to use your hands. You need to leave yourself room for future endevors. You dont want to end up 40 yrs old than trying to get your life straight.Millermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer

Reply:EDUCATION, going to school , it sucks, BUT, if you have it the sky is the limit or is it outer space. Anyway, you must get at least a high school education. Even  if you don't use a degree in your field a employer just knowing you did it will have more respect for you and management is where you will be heading if you so desire. You will have more options. It gets pretty hot in any shop without air conditioning but those office guys are cool.Who knows, you may land a job and the owner takes a liken to you and says there's a course at so and  so that i will pay for that will help you for that NEW POSITION, you want it ????? now what ? Not to many people enjoy going to school but it is part of life. It all depends on your outlook. Will you be   happy at say $10.00 a hour ? or would you want more and better benefits and conditions. Even in the UNION TRADES courses are available to make your  self SALABLE ! Usually the more you know the more you will be working. I have been a union pipefitter for 40 years and was never out of work.My buddies never wanted to apply them self and still worked seasonally and did fine. I think it's all about what you want to make of life and separating your wants from your needs.Good luck in your life and choose wisely . BOB
Reply:jeremyTake it from someone that has sever dyslexia, cant spell my way out of a wet paper bag,  Get your butt back in school and get you deplomia. How bad did I hate, except for the girls, tons! But I did real well in math and since and youll need the math for welding Im sure. Heck you cant even drive a truck where Im working at with out a high school diploma. Dont be ashamed to ask for help after school. If it means getting you out of school and into the work force, so be it. Pay your dues and what ever you do, just do it the best you can.
