Reply:Wow, kibby, What an emmense undertaking, but they don't make like that anymore, do they? I'm doing something similar, but no way as in-depth.Nice Job,  Attached ImagesBruce The Welding ChefLincoln Weld-Pack 3200 NORWELD StickStanford Hill Farm
Reply:thanks for the great comments, this mustang was as close to death as a car could get but the owner wanted it restored so here I am knee deep in it. I will keep posting pictures for you guys, I now have the front end complete and just started cutting out the rear quarters. the rain channel is shot so I will have to fabricate new from scratch since no one offers aftermarket pieces for this area. Bruce, looks like a nice project you have there, is that an old powerwagon? I love those old trucks like that, keep me posted on your progess I would love to see more.thanksGary Attached Images
Reply:Looks good! Yep thats a typical Mustang..Is it a K code car?...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Hey Gary,It is a Military version of the Power Wagon, near about finished up w/ it. It a 1953 Dodge M-37, aka; G-741. I was nearly finished/done when I ran into this bed in Channcilorsville last year. How much repro sheet metal is available for the 'Stang, the project looks monumental? Reply:Hey Gary, I am feeling guilty, I jumped all over your thread, I should start another? Bruce The Welding ChefLincoln Weld-Pack 3200 NORWELD StickStanford Hill Farm
Reply:That looks like a very tough job.How do you keep everything in proper alignment when working on a unibody??  That's gotta be tough.I have a little stuff like this to do, but I'm afraid there won't be much love or enjoyment in it.  Car craft is a rare specialized gift that y'all got.  I don't really have it."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I don't mind anyone jumping in on this thread, I enjoy conversing with people with similar intrest. Bruce you are doing a great job on the powerwagon, I would love to find an old powerwagon like it to make a project out of it, keep posting pictures of it To answer the other questions, no it is not s K code car, just a plain old "stang" before I cut any parts out I take as many measurementsas possible for referance later on, then  just brace where I can with angle or tubing, this car is a little different than most, the inner rockers were shot but the outter were near mint, the frame was solid as were the front shock towers which they are usally the first to rust out. There is a ton of after market sheet metal for mustangs so getting new parts isn't an issue except for the rain channel, I will have to hand form that piece. All in all it is a big undertaking but I love a challange. I have some picks of a 1951 plymouth covertable I did awhile back I will post some pic's of it later on.
Reply:Hey Kibby, You have one heck of a job on your hands. Nice work. I didn't no it was a convertible but now that I do I would suggest adding some cross braces and supports to keep the chassis straight and true while you are doing the metal work. The body can move around a lot when cut apart like that and may end up out of position and then welded. I have seen where a body looked straight and true but when the doors went back on, well it wasn't good. Convertibles are the hardest to do because of this. Thanks for sharing and keep us up to date.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
Reply:I will try and keep it at a minimum. More door & pass pilar. Before & After shot. Attached ImagesBruce The Welding ChefLincoln Weld-Pack 3200 NORWELD StickStanford Hill Farm
Reply:Wait a minute... I watched the "pan weld" operation, on Ford's Mustang line... 45 seconds -total time- Seriously, that's quite an undertaking. The car's owner was lucky to find someone like Kibby, who's willing to put the extra effort into detail.
Reply:Nice work, I hope the blokes got deep pockets, but not too deep
Reply:wow i think that old stang had 3 tires in the grave when u got it. but u are making it trun around. i may have missed it but do u have any pics of the car from the start?
Reply:Here's some pic's before I got started. thanks for the compliments! Attached Images
Reply:It looks like it started as a '65 "Rustang"!  Pretty cool project, very nice work, both of you guys!! Bruce is turning me OD green with envy....my TM (technical manual) doesn't list iron-oxide as an approved paint scheme.........City of L.A. Reply:i really got to give it up for those that do the car restorations...maybe someday i'll try one myself.
Reply:Definetly an ambitious undertaking.I never was too Falcon/Mustang/Comet/Cougar crazy, so I never really kept up with their values,  and... this was over 25 years ago, when there were still some give-aways. I ran into a guy who had about a ‘67 fast-back for sale. It was nice, white/blue stripes, fresh from California, a 4-speed, with some factory hi-po stuff. The seller said he would take twenty two for it. I thought the price was steep, but it was a nice Mustang, and I figured I better not try to chisel him and loose it, so I told him I'd take it. I gave the seller a deposit and asked him to get the papers ready. To make sure the deal stayed clinched, I asked Alfred to stay behind -keep his mouth shut- and help the seller empty the car out. Meanwhile, I would go to the bank. HA HA he was talking 22,000 I thought 2,200.The real ha ha; who knows what it's worth today. Or at least was worth, a few years ago.Last edited by denrep; 11-30-2008 at 05:06 PM.
