i'm new to the forum, and will post an introduction in the appropriate place later. right now, my question is this:  what's a good voltage and wire speed setting to start with to run a vertical-up with .045 core wire?  when using 1/16 wire, i run about 24 volts and 180 for the wire with pretty good results, but have no clue where to start with .045, having never done it before.  thanks for any help.
Reply:if it's the same type wire as the 1/16 leave voltage alone and raise wire speed to around 300 inches.
Reply:thankyou, dipper welder64.
Reply:Depending on the gas and the particular wire, you might start at 23 volts and 200 IPM. You will need to fine tune, but that is a pretty good starting point for gas shielded fcaw. On the other hand, if it is self-shielding, try 16 volts and 125 IPM. You will still need to fine tune.didn't I just answer this a few posts ago for someone else?
Reply:yup;  it appears you did.  guess i didn't look till after i posted the question.  thanks to you all.
