Went to my first estate auction Saturday. It surprised me that a 17 year old Miller Econotig sold for $1250 and a Millermatic for $500. The mm150 seemed ok but the Econotig was way too much. What do you think is a reasonable price for an Econotig? I want to be better prepared for the next auction or private sale. My applications are for thin ms or SS plate and tubing using mostly TIG but some stick too. I already have a MIG. Aluminum is also in the mix.The work will include commercial kitchen mods and repair, kitchen equipment prototype fabrication, bicycle mods and fabrication, lawn art, and table art. This is my first post on this forum. There will be more."Stay connected my friend"
Reply:WOW!!!! $1250 for an Econotig! I just sold mine for $600, and thought that was a decent deal. It was in great shape, worked fine, but still 16 years old.

Reply:Outrageous the prices they sometimes get at auctions. I bought 100 ft. of 2-0 welding lead with connectors for $40 while some one paid $1500 for a 20 year old Miller welder that would have been an ancestor of a new Millermatic 212 at the same auction! Did come with two 10 lb. spools of wire though!Don't think you'll ever see prices like that on the Communist China junk. But at any rate, there is no telling how an auction will go. May be overpriced or may be a bargain hunters dream. Reply:I have an Econotig but it was 500 bucks from a buddy and barely used with no time on the TIG torch.I wouldn't give more than that for one.Auctions are strange. I like watching everyone else blow their money driving up prices on popular items while I cherry pick. Always be ready to go home empty. Last auction I went to, angle grinders were selling for half of retail! That's insane, but I ended up with a cheap load of clean filing cabinets for storage.
Reply:Thanks again everyone. I thought $500 was a more reasonable price since the equipment was well cared for.You are right about the Econotig have too much current for thin stock. I'll be looking for a better fit or more than one machine. It doesn't need to be miller or Lincoln but I'd prefer a USA machine rather than foreign made.
Reply:Econotig- I have a Econotig 150 CC AC/DC power source with arc starter, no torch or pedal I will sell for $200.00 Pick up only. It is about 15 yrs old.Haven't had it plugged in for 10 yrs just sitting on the bench. I am at MM 23 in the Fl Keys |
