Well my Dad, up in New Hampshire, has been looking for a TIG machine lately. I was searching for one myself here in Florida, and found nothing. While looking on Ebay, I found a Syncrowave 180 SD for $1150. I told him about it, and he picked it up. I probably should have asked before buying that, but is that a scratch start machine? This one didn't have the water cooled torch, but Dad didn't want that anyway for what he was doing. It's got a thumb control instead of a foot pedal, too. Dad was hoping it would be able to work with 3/16" aluminum. This should be able to do that, right? Either way, I think it was a pretty good buy considering I've been looking at these a bit lately and haven't found any for less than that. I spoke with the guy about it a little while ago, and he was helpful and gave me a good feeling about the deal. He's upgrading to the 250 DX, which is why he's selling it. Now I just have to find one in FL...
Reply:You might need to do a little preheat in certain situations on the 3/16" aluminum in order to get a good weld. Othwerwise, the 180 will do fine. T-welds always seem to take a little more heat. |
