Have anyof you people ever used paralell bar to aid in fitting And what did you fit with them i'd really appreciate the feedback i've been a welder Android fitter for 28years Android have never seen or heard of them any info would be greatly appreciated thanks guys
Reply:I cant really decipher your grammar, but Im taking a stab at it. Do you mean the "Tack-it" fit-up tool thats machined to your preferred gap, like 3/32 or 1/8" Has adjustable pins for different size pipe, HI LO pins.Im a pipe Jewel fan myself, they aint cheap, but sure hold a lot of weight.Whats the Android??Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:Sorry madmax the"Android "thing is this tablet inserting for "and " ...as for your response i'm not sure i thought it might be used to fit pipe in alignment like v blocks

Reply:Ok we just call them pipe clamps buti have used them tothe tool i am talking about are called paralell bars like i said i've never heard of them what i'm picturing are a set of bars side by side with a space in the middle
Reply:Ok people i did find out the answer for paralell bars where i work is shim blocks.  That machinists use to level their parts on their machines i don't know why they didn't just call them leveling blocks but thanks anyway guys
Reply:I've never used parallel blocks, like the machinist uses, for fitting, but I have used key stock.

Reply:I've tried to use these chain clamps in the past and they just don't work IMO.    Just look at how they are made and you should see what I'm saying.A much better clamp IMO is what we pipeliners call "Dearmans".  They are made by the Mathey Dearman company and you will find them functional in aligning all kinds of weld fittings. Here's a link to a pic of a mini-size set I just now found on google http://www.drillspot.com/products/94...ment_clamp?s=1Good luckLast edited by slowhand; 06-16-2011 at 08:06 PM.
Reply:Good clamps as well, they get awkward when they get bigger tho... I find some of the best are the simplist tho... cant go wrong with a couple of dogs, a piece of plate that has a notch in it and a nut welded above the notch and some ATR and a welded nut always works well Originally Posted by slowhandI've tried to use these chain clamps in the past and they just don't work IMO.    Just look at how they are made and you should see what I'm saying.A much better clamp IMO is what we pipeliners call "Dearmans".  They are made by the Mathey Dearman company and you will find them functional in aligning all kinds of weld fittings. Here's a link to a pic of a mini-size set I just now found on google http://www.drillspot.com/products/94...ment_clamp?s=1Good luck
Reply:Dearmans are God Awful expensive. If you anticipate what the chain is going to do as you tighten it, your fit-ups can be just fine. Ive also used a piece of angle iron, with chain vise-grips. I really cant picture a "Parallel Bar" being useful for any joint other than pipe to pipe.... Just the mental image Im getting....Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
