the wife and i have been collecting pottery by a guy named bill  campbell for 30 years. we  have a few plates  we bought years ago and somewhere she bought some display stands for em. she got me another plate  reecently and i copied the old stands and made a new one. fotos show a jig i built to bend the 1/4"  rod cause i dont have a bender.   the jig is attached to a tube i use to hammer  rod into larger diameter curves  based on a post i saw here, so i welded the smaller bending jig to it. the two stands on the left are the ones we bought, the one on the right i made. Reply:elegant.you could sell those to other collectors i betthere has to be a forum for them, there is a forum for everything elseinsert thoughtful quote from someone else2000 Thermal Arc 300GTSW 3.5 hours1946 Monarch 20 x 54 Lathe1998 Supermax 10x54 Mill2004 Haco Atlantic 1/2" Capacity Lasernot mine but i get to play with it
Reply:I like the heavier roundstock you use.  It's a damn sight more stable because of the added weight."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:i never looked too close at the old stands, but they are somewhow lighter than  mine and i cant see the welds on them, it might be furnace brazed with a tinylittle dot of brazemetal in a butt joint.
Reply:Hi Weldbead,  Really nice job, very useful, Could you perhaps find some thin wall clear plastic tubing 1/4" bore, cut it into 1/2" lengths and slip them onto the "feet" as funiture protectors to make a neater job than felt pads, Also being attached to the stands they would always be in the ideal position, Hope you Don't mind the suggestion?  Best regards  Gordon.
Reply:xlnt idea, gordon, those felt pads are an e eyesore..gonna get some rubber tube today ..thx very much..
Reply:Nice work weldbead, I've made 'em of wood in the past, but this looks real nice! Made even better w/ Gordon's input.Bruce The Welding ChefLincoln Weld-Pack 3200 NORWELD StickStanford Hill Farm
Reply:Looks real nice, the only thing is maybe you should have rounded the ends. other than that... Perfect ¤If you got money, i've got time
Reply:the piece shown in the jig was just a scrap i bent to take a foto of..the   ends of the ones in the stand were ground smooth and chamferred by rolling on a grinder, i dont think i could get them smooth  or round  enough not to mar the wood..curious what method youd use to round them,,and thanks..

Reply:I dunno what I'm thinkin'.  You could do the smoothing before the bending with a flap wheel after the grinder rough in.  Dope slap"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
