These stairs will not see much use but they still need a hand rail.I'm normally a wood guy but they have seen my welds and let me do this.plum and straight right?I used my hd 180 with flux core .035 wire. The hand rail is like 18ga so welder set at A and 1.5 wire speedThen they wanted some steel posts under it.I didn't have a torch with me so I tried a steel cutting blade...sweet I may never use a torch againBolted the plates top and bottomSlipped in the 4" steel post (1 was very tight reason for the big hammer)Weld it up.... welder on E and around 3.5 wire speed [ //img145.imageshack.us/img145/2971/handrailpainted002dp6.jpg[/IMG]Last edited by IamVince; 01-09-2009 at 07:41 PM.
Reply:Posts completed Not too bad for a home hobby welder
Reply:Nice for #1 they get easier after this, and faster too. Keep up the good work.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:The rail turned out good and straight. Is there any concern about the mud work on this job? The steps are poured on fill, and don't seem to have any kind of footer along the length of the steps. That piled up stuff supporting the steps is gonna move over time given the the steep angle, and hilly conditions. Seems like a washout waitin' to happen. Not a lot of substantial support there. Ok, I'm gettin' picky"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I was thinking along the lines of farmersamm,, I can sure see the need for the rail!! Looking at the pictures I think I'd even put in some steel mesh all along it for the kiddies and doggies!! thats a steepslope off to the side there,, I hope they are going to put in more substance along the ground??
