Since I don't know how to make a poll- 1)What brand of electrodes are you guys buying/using on a daily basis? 2) Is there a reason you use only that brand? (price, availability, etc)I'm just kind of curious to find out what all the other welders on here are usingGo Cards!!!!!
Reply:Lincoln.Sealed cans. Easy to find at any welding supplier in whatever Podunk town I'm in at the time. Consistent performance, every can welds the same as the last. Not always true for every brand.
Reply:For 7018, I 've used McKay for years and love it. Sometimes it's hard to find, so I've tried Esab Atom Arc and Hobart 418 and like them both. But the batch of 418 I had was hard to restrike. It came in a 10# plastic pak and I wonder if that seals good enough. So I will try it again from a can.For 6010 I have always used McKay. Again, since the depression, it's harder to find. So I will try Lincoln 5P and 5p+ next time I buy it.I remember using some Lincoln 6013 on an A/C welder and it was the best smelling stuff. I wish I could make a cologne out of it and market it to weldors!"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Lincoln.Used to like that Excaliber came in a resealable can but the last time at my LWS I purchased it in cardboard box. Maybe they are making changes?Like the basic 5p+, 6011, 7018 for the most welding I ever do. Have some other stuff kicking around here but depending on AC or DC I use the rods above.Lincoln because I can find it in a big box store or at the LWS. No surprises that wayLast edited by Nitesky; 07-11-2011 at 07:51 AM.Reason: Why I use LinlolnGordie -- "I believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

Reply:I am not a daily welder, I am retired and have a "hobby shop" where I spend a couple of days a week.3/32 6011 & 6013 Lincoln from Home Depot, I will change brands when my present supply is exhausted. My LWS deserves my support, they have earned it. 1/8 6011 & 7014 Washington Wire from Westair, my LWS1/16 6013 & 7014 from Harbor Freight, (who else sells this size locally?)I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. Reply:lincoln excalibur H4R 7018 or Hobart 7018-1fleetweld 5p 6010and the lincoln 7014, forget what its called
Reply:I've been real happy with all the MG rods I've used. LWS changed managers and they don't stock quantities of it like they used to because it costs more, even though many of the guys ask for it specifically over the cheaper stuff..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
