I've been shopping to fill a hole in my welding equipment ever since my old AC/DC stick unit with an HF box got caught in a garage sale. I'm in love with the new inverters but frustrated by the fact that I can't get AC TIG-P in a CC/CV unit. Miller, Lincoln and Thermal Arc all make some real nice looking rigs but to get CV you have to give up AC TIG-P needed for aluminum and if you go with the Tig units you loose the CV for MIG. I fully understand inverter technology and realize that it would probably require an additional hf transformer and IGBT block internally but they are already doing this in their current designs.Back to the question, does anyone think this will happen in the near future? My plan B is just to go grab a ThermalArc 185 or Miller 200DX to cover my small stick and light tig needs and continue to let my old BetaMig and spoolgun cover the aluminum 3/16" and above (but I really would like pulse on my mig!). Maybe add a second feeder for steel to save time changing wire. This is just my home rig so buying 2 $4,000 units is not going to fly but a single $5,000 rig might if it did everything I could dream of. Any opinions are welcome.
