Since I've decided to go to wood to heat my weld shop (oil prices), I searched for and found an old Cordwood (buzz) Saw.  It had a blown 8 hp B&S mounted on it.  I took all that junk off.  I found a gear box I could adapt a PTO to.  I made the mounts for the box, calculated pulley sizes for correct blade tip speed, bought the stuff for that. Installed mounts for 3 pt hitch, and bought a new PTO shaft.  Originally, the thing didn't have any blade guard, so I fabbed that too.  Made the outside shield hinged so I can get the blade off for sharpening.  I just dug it out of the barn yesterday.  Thought I'd post a few pics.  One pic is of a couple of welds, painted. Reply:And here's a You Tube video of one in use.  You can see how fast these things will cut small logs.  I cut up to a size diameter that I can safely pick up.  Trying to cut the smaller stuff with a chain saw is a real PITA.   The one in the video runs from a flat belt.  Requires a flat belt pulley installed on the tractor PTO Shaft.  I believe mine used to be driven that way as there are set screw marks in the center of the arbor shaft.  The one I used as a kid was mounted on the front of a John Deere B, flat belt driven up the right side of the tractor.  [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbMlLfYsi2g"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbMlLfYsi2g[/ame]

Reply:Here's an even older tractor driven saw.  This one DOES scare me.  Not a buzz saw though.  And, I don't think I'd be standing where that dude is in the event the blade gets bound, and parts start flying. Attached Images

Reply:Pawelder:Yep, been there done that. Growing up in Canada we had the same saw 30" no guard either. Cut a ton of logs for wood cook stove in house and sauna. Fell the trees in winter and skid them in. Our saw was belt driven. We'd cut all weekend then go for a nice hot sauna.Glad I don't need to do that anymore down here in East Texas.Sign on East Texas payphone: Calls to God 40 cents......it's a local call...
