Some distortion, and heat shrinking.Put the stress to it in the direction ya want it to go. Hit it with the rosebud until it's orange, then hit it with a water mist to cool and contract it.I was out around 1/4 inch after final welding, an I got it back to where I wanted it. A little drastic, but it works. LOTS OF STEAM Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Not trying to steal your thread Sam, but to shrink sheet metal, like a body panel, do this:Heat a round area (dime size, up to quarter size) on the stretched area (I start around the outside of the area (low point). When orange use a dinging hammer and dolly block (body tools), or other round faced hammer like a ball peen. Whack it in the center of the orange, and immediately apply cold water. The hammer blow upsets the metal, the water shrinks. Repeat until the panel is level. Bondo and you're on the way to a nice body job.
Reply:Gee sam what you creating now?? A poor man's steam room. Pa my father's body shops used a process similiar to that. At times he would even use dry ice & ice to popout a panel.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.& 2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:It works just letting it cool in the air too. Of course that takes patience which I don't have a lot of.
Reply:We used to heat straighten beams, channel, tube etc. Its an art thats for sure. Not supposed to accelerate the cooling until it comes down to below 600 degrees F. Attached Imagesonly thing worse than an ugly woman is an ugly weld |
