I finally got tired of a having a pile of worn out cardboard boxes and tubes of TIG filler piled on a shelf, so I had a student in my fabrication class make this caddy for all the main stuff we use in my fab and welding classes. The frame is all rectangular and square tube and the actual holder tubes are 2" PVC. Sorry for the picture quality, but they were taken with my phone.
Reply:Looks great, but tell that young man in the background to put some long sleeves on! Burns are one thing, skin cancer is another!
Reply:Also, just a suggestion, swap the mild steel tubes with whatever is in the middle. This keeps the stainless and aluminum fillers segregated, so nothing gets accidentally dropped in the wrong tube. Nothing like TIG welding an aluminum frame and accidentally grabbing some stainless rod.
Reply:nice work
Reply:nice work i like the simplicity of the caddy. though i may build one, but with less tubes seeing that i only use 4 different stainless, 1 aluminum and 2 mild steel fillers. ill post it up as soon as i get it built!good job!SH_P
Reply:Nice! You must do a lot of tig welding.Miller Dynasty 200DX Tig Welder
Reply:Your phone does a better job than my so called fancy a$$ cameraLooks neat. Wonderful thing about welding.......if you can think of it, you can make it."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Dang you have alot of rod!! That didn't sound right did it It's not what you can buy, it's what you can build that matters
Reply:Lincoln was exceptionally helpful when the Motorsports program began and donated a ton of the filler metals you see. The funny thing is we ended up with 4 ten pound boxes of 1/16" 308 ss but no other diamter of 308, etc. So, I still have some gaps to fill. We also have a bunch of oddball stuff I didn't put in there. I think I'll keep all the oxyfuel, cromoly, and inconel stuff in boxes in the supply room so students won't grab it by accident.I'm also going to get them to make an aluminum box cover to slide on over it and keep the dirt and dust out. |
