Smaw rod 11018 -m what is the best usage for these type of rods?
Reply:The 110's should be used more for high strength steels and is overkill for general mild steel applications and can actually be too strong and crack depending on joint or application.... It is an all position rod and runs like you would expect 7018 to run.Last edited by lorenzo; 01-01-2007 at 10:55 AM._________________Chris
Reply:Also quite sensitive to hydrogen. Storage needs to be spot on-any moisture can be devestating to the weld metal-- and preheat is pretty important, and if you arn't welding material that needs it, more trouble than it is worth.Funniest thing is sometimes it will be fine with weeks of exposure to humid air and welding on crummy material, but sometimes perfectly stored rods on clean well prepped material will crack out for no obvious reason.
Reply:Some crane manufacturers require their boom lattice be welded with it. When I replace one I always fit the new lattice into position, open a new 10# can and weld it up. Sometimes this only takes 4 rods, then I throw the rest away. I have no other use for it and I wouldn't weld a boom lattice with any that has been in the open for more than 4 hours.
Reply:Thanks yall, i used the rod a couple times on jobs, and got to take a bunch of them home. The slag looks like 6011 (black) but welds just like 7018-1 I guess i will use it to weld somthing that will need to be extreme heavy duty. |
