I have a little welding experience but this one of my first times building something from scratch out of metal. Tell me what you think and if you have any suggestions.

Reply:You did a great job on the cart! You should do something about the tank at the bottom. Something to keep it stable where it can't kick out from side to side, or front to back and cause it to fall out of the cart or tip the cart over. I don't think you will have any trouble coming up with something because the cart looks well thought out. And maybe add a handle to push or pull the cart around with. As for the welds, well can't really see them good, but they look like they will do good for the cart from what I can see.Keep welding metal together and keep posting the pics.Miller Thunderbolt 225Millermatic 130 XPLincoln HD 100 Forney C-5bt Arc welderPlasma Cutter Gianteach Cut40ACent Machinery Bandsaw Cent Machinery 16Speed Drill PressChicago Electric 130amp tig/90 ArcHobart 190 Mig spoolgun ready

Reply:Looks good, especially for a beginner project.  How much did all that steel cost you?  That would be like $300 at a hardware store around here!
Reply:thats a nice cart
Reply:Nice cart.  The hole is clean.  However, lifting the bottle that high might get old, especially if you increase the size.  Also, is it possible for that tank to slide out from the bottom.Really good job on the cart.
Reply:GOOD JOB! My own design is similar but I haven't gotten as far as you have yet. There are couple of differences between your design and mine. I decided that I would cut 4 caster mounting plates and weld THEM to the cart frame then bolt the casters to the mounting plate so they can be easily replaced if necessary. And in my design I will be using expanded metal instead of sheet so that air circulation will help cool the welder. My welder is probably more prone to heating in cases of 100 percent duty cycle for long periods. Miller Thunderbolt XL ac-dc.I think someone mentioned a handle and I am planning a couple of 1x16ga square tubing rising from the bottom frame tied together along with a nickel-plated 5/8 round stock as the actual handle. Might even make partial cuts to give a slight angle to the top portion of the handle bracket. Donno yet.But yes, I like your cart otherwise. SteveJunkYard Tools .com

Reply:Originally Posted by familyxjI haven't decided how I want to do the handle and the lower support or retainer for the tank. I also plan on adding hangers for my grinder and a few other tools on one side and a magnetic strip on the other side for c clamps and other items. The only thing I am not happy with is the way I did the wheels. I am thinking about removing them and redoing the wheel design to move them just outside the frame to widen the stance a little bit.
Reply:looks goods. What size cf cylinder is that? 120?Ya gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:That looks pretty neat, I have yet to try to build something like that, even though I need one bad...............Great job!!!!

Reply:Nice job on the cart familyxj.I really don't think you'll have any issues with that tank getting away rolling the rig around the shop as your set up isn't that different from a factory unit.  I agree though you might not enjoy changing out a larger bottle should you go that way down the road but then that'll make for a good 'modification' project should that day come.Does it tend to be tipsy and thus your thoughts to modify the caster arrangement?  If you wanted to maintain the same OD width, turning the swivel casters lengthwise would provide another 1" or so of tread width up front wouldn't it?Keep up the good work and posts.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!Originally Posted by duaneb55Nice job on the cart familyxj.I really don't think you'll have any issues with that tank getting away rolling the rig around the shop as your set up isn't that different from a factory unit.  I agree though you might not enjoy changing out a larger bottle should you go that way down the road but then that'll make for a good 'modification' project should that day come.Does it tend to be tipsy and thus your thoughts to modify the caster arrangement?  If you wanted to maintain the same OD width, turning the swivel casters lengthwise would provide another 1" or so of tread width up front wouldn't it?Keep up the good work and posts.
