tig welding tips

hay guys i have been practising tig welding and i am doing good im making root passes nice and tight. i was wondering is there any medications or something that will help me develop a steady hand  because i shake a bit and i find it strainful to try and keep it steady maybe i am nervous that i will make a mistake :-) but any tips please would helpthanks  JasonLast edited by RoosterBoy; 12-28-2006 at 11:30 PM.
Reply:Learn to stabilize your hands and arms. I always support my arms and if I don't have a place to do that while welding on a chassis or roll cage, I use the side of my hand or my pinky to stabilize my hand.- Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories

Reply:If you can't support your arms try keeping your elbows close to your body.. even if it's just with one of your arms. Stayong close will reduce any shaking.. or it should._________________Chris
Reply:the more you try to steady yourself (for me anyway) the harder it will be to not shake or twitch or whatever.  Try to stay loose and relaxed but still concentrated on moving the torch and adding the filler.  There is a medication that snipers use, its called diazipam.  Beer works too
Reply:Walking the cup helps a lot whenn deep in a groove (root especially). I also tend to drag the side of my hand or my pinkie along for stability and guidance. It gets hot, but extra insulation helps. It probably doesn't hurt that I end up with huge callousses on the side of my hand doing this.

Reply:sometime free handing a difficult weld i'll stick a tig cup on my "cursed for life" finger so i can drag it and help steady my hand. this works really good on tubing.or you can wrap that finger while wearing a glove with duct tape and what not.........then cut the finger off the glove so you can use it when you need it...........for the same.      .....all kinds of ideas out there.....
