My local stores, home depot, sears, menards, lowes and terrace supply don't have much for metal. Some angle iron and flat and bar stock but that is it. What if I want a round piece or square piece (say 6"x6" or 1'x1') of stainless or aluminum. Say i want to build a model size race car, or overflow tank or something of that nature. Only thing these stores have is small pieces like 20g or 22g stuff.Or even tubing. I want some 1.25" aluminum tubing. Where can I get that from? Reply:Look for a local metal or steel supply company. They will be WAAAAYYYY cheaper than Home Depot, Lowes, TSC, etc. Hot rolled angle, tube, etc., is approximately $.53 cents per pound.
Reply:Central Steel and Wire is in Chicago. They have UPS shipped many hard to find items to me in Los Angeles. They carry many alum items.Phone: 1-800-621-8510Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:I make a point to never buy steel from Lowes, HD, etc. They charge as much as 10X what you pay at a steel distributor. It pays to find a local steel supplier that you can build a relationship with - even if it means a little bit of a drive.Hobart LX235Victor 250 Oxy-Acetylene Rig (welding and cutting)Bobcat 773F-350, 1999, 4x4, 16' 10K# trailerOutdoor Wood Burner - 10 cords/year
Reply:Team Tube is up there 1800-450-3454. I've never bought from them, but I hear they have good prices.T.
Reply:Look in the Yellow Pages for a steel dealer. The one I deal with is over 60 miles away, but if I buy more than $100 of material at a time, they'll deliver it for free. This is probably not uncommon.
Reply:Gamble,PM me with your contact info and what you are looking for. I get a good rate from Alro because we buy so many tons per year. I also really like AAA steel in Scherillville, IN. Ask for Josh, he'll let you wander around the indoor yard and pick out drops. If you head a little further South down 41, you'll land at my shop. I'd be happy to let you browse my inventory and try a few different machines. |
