Hello everyone! This will be my starter post to this section of the site. This is not meant to wow, its just to be a first time post to introduce myself in this section, the WOW can come later! I am a bit rusty at using a buzz box, I have been using mig, almost exclusively for quite some time now.And yes, for this, I felt it was appropriate to use the arc welder to do this, as it was being done for the arc welder, to do otherwise, just seemed wrong!I picked this little Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 up the other day, its almost new, the guy bought it and only used it one time to fix a broken axle mount on a trailer! He fell into hard times like so many has recently, and needed the money more than he needed the welder!I got it without the wheel kit, so of course, the first order of business was to make it portable, you know how it is, you get a new toy and you can't just leave it alone, you've gotta add your touch to it! I had a set of wheels laying around, and a good length of 1/2" rod, so the wheels was easy enough to take care of.Next, was to make it easier to move around, not as easy to bend over to lug something around anymore, it seems the older I get, the further away the floor gets!So I used what I had laying around and started making a handle with a set of hooks for the cables!I first had to cut a set of uprights from a 1/8" steel plate, I cut them 1" wide, the Max 600 plasma cutter made light work of that!drilled holes at the top for some 5/8" rod for the handle, I bent the uprights to emulate the angle of the corners of the welder, welded on a piece of 1/2" rod for a middle support, and 2  5"x1/2" pieces of rod for the cable hooks!I still need to drill the holes for attaching it to the welder, clean it all up, and paint it.Thanks for looking!Ken. Reply:Ought to work just fine.  You got the leverage point high enough where it'll be easy to tip up to move, and won't be a bear to balance.  It's amazing how heavy those small machines are.  I think around 105 or thereabouts. You'll probably want to put lead extensions on later when you figure out how long they really have to be, and what you're willing to spend.  I cut the originals about a foot from the cabinet, and used good quality Tweco disconnects.  I've been real happy with the results.I think you're really gonna like the welder.  I've had real good luck with mine."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Looks real good, Ken. And your right, let the buzzbox build it's own carriage!!!  My thunderbolt already had a cart waiting for it from an old Monkey ward buzzbox, but no hooks. So the buzzbox had to weld on it's own hooks.                                 MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:Thanks everyone!Samm!I like your idea of adding the disconnects, I have plans on adding long leads before spring, I plan on 50' on each side as I have projects that are waiting warmer weather that can only be done outside, and moving the welder every few welds would get to be a PITA.Sorry Magnetic, I am the epitome of Tim Taylors "the more, the better" mla2ofus, duaneb55.Yup!If it gets something made for it, it better be a doin the work! Here;s one of those projects that will be re-started this spring!Sorry, I only have the 2 pics right now of it, I have others, but they are on my laptop, and it died on me a while back!Anyway, it will be a 16' + 4' dove deck over, the dove will be hinged so that it can be raised to make it a full 20' flat if the need arises.I am reusing an existing trailer frame, and added extensions, I reset the wheel balance point already, but thats as far as I got last fall. The third pic is what it should look like when I get it done!
