Started the lift beam this afternoon.  Didn't get terribly far, but WTH, it's progress4 stiffeners, and a sliding lift eye, and it's done. Then on to a restraining thingie for the torch cart, AND IT'S DONE Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:How much is that sum beach gonna weigh when your done?Yup
Reply:Dayem Sayem; that's some serious angles and dangles. I like metal fab in any application. A sliding lift arm and a sliding lift eye, pretty much covers the possibilities. You 'bring it'. Reply:Burnit--- I think it's gonna tip the scales at a little over 300 some lbs.  And tip the tractor over, and the truck over.........ST----  I  think I'm learning to handle the blow a little better.  I'm moving the clamp around more, instead of leaving it in one place all the time, and I have also tried one of those magnetic clamp things with some success.  I think I'm getting used to it too.  It's all a learning curve I guess."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:a handy little tip for arc blow that was figured out through trial and error when we were trying to weld on crucibles.we ended up making a square frame with 4 magnet grounds (1 at each corner) with two leads that were in a Y configuration that terminated at 1 tweeco connection.      worked great to solve the arc blow problems.  you might try rigging up a "custom" Y ground lead and see if you can ground to both sides of the piece.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:Maybe I'm just crude, but I still like what I've always called the "sh!thook". Homemade from 1/4" plate and shaped like a gaff hook w/ a point straight out. If it won't make a ground, I tack the point to the work and then when finished grind the tack off.                             JMHO,                                       MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:Thanks for the ideas.Always having just used AC, it's been real different to see the arc move around.I still have a long ways to go before I know what I'm doin'"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
