When are you going to make something, she asks ?

This is what I heard the other day !!  "When are you actually going to make something out there ? "I replied with, "I am making something ! ", just not coffee tables or the like.I am surprised by how much I have to actually make, before I  can "Make" something !!I can't make anything till I have a work bench to save me stooping on the floor and buggering up my back.(Now have that bench) I can't make a coffee table, till I have a clamping jig to get things straight and make life easy. I can't make that jig till I have a cut off saw jig to speed things along !!!Hopefully I will have all the jigs and stuff soon and actually make something of beauty !  At least whilst I am making all these jigs, I am slowly getting better at my welds (still hanging out for my course to start)Anyway, so this morning little project was  small and simple jig to easily bolt to my docking saw to do 45 degree miters. At present I have to unbolt the standard face plate and cut and measure each time I move it (That sucks !!)With this new jig, 2 little bolts with wing nuts, 30 seconds worth of time and it's on (or off), and I have perfect miters every time.

Reply:I made something pretty close to that for my chop saw a long time back.  It works nice at holding the angle.  You'll like itYou probably will find, like I did, that the vise that comes with the saw won't hold the tubing from being sorta sucked into the blade as it cuts.  The metal starts walkin' on ya.  Just a little, but enough to mess up the cut.  What I did was to use a plain ol' C-clamp to hold the tubing against the fence instead of the swivel vise.  You have to tilt the C-clamp down to the left so that the motor on the saw doesn't hit when you make the cut.You'll really enjoy it.Good job!!!!"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:That is a time saver.  I made mine to hook around the back jaw so you don't need the bolts.  You could easily make yours do the same.Dan

Reply:i been at it 2 years and 99% of what i make is tools, not pretty stuff the wife will like.. tell her to be patient....
