Arc weld tubing

I have a 225 Lincoln welder and I can fix most everything I need with it and I can good results. I have a project that is 3/32 chrome molly tubing and I have tryed to weld some scraps togeather with the arc and have not got good results. I went around to get info for the right stick and tempenture to weld this tubing and did not get very good info. I was thinking about renting a welder to do the job, I wanted to see if the arc could get it done or go with renting.Thank, youEmmett
Reply:Unless you have a hugh amount of welding to do, oxy acetelene is the best bet for 4130 tubing. How critical of an application is it ?Not a beginner, not a pro !
Reply:All of the original parts that are used with this project are arc or other type of bead welding. I am trying to keep to the original look of the projects.ThanksEmmett
Reply:you can do it with 6013 or maybe a faster cool rod. because the tubes are round, its best to weld 1 inch or less, then reposition the pipe, weld another. make sure the gap between the pipes is very small. its also good to grind or sand down the gap between them to make sure the arc doesnt wander. as the pipe heats up the welding will become different as well, beads will be larger and  harder to stick. you could also tack and stop, tack and stop but it will take a while but it might give you cleaner results.im new to arc welding but ive welded pipe of the same thickness, lots of grinding to get rid of ugliness, apart from that it was fine. i did it in little bits, making sure the heat was the same for each short run.
Reply:All chromemoly pipe welding that I have done, and have seen done was either TIG welded, or arc welded with a specific procedure. When I have done it, I've pre-heated to 350 F and welded with 8018 rod (7018 in emergency).You can also oxy/acetylene weld it.
