I just got a brand new Miller Dynasty 200 DX, tig welder with DC pulsing.  Sometimes the arc buzzes fairly loud and sometimes it is as quiet as a church mouse.  I've been welding thin steel, using a .040 cerated tungsten, 100% argon. I set it up for 40Amps peak, 175 pulses per second, 75% peak time, 20% background.  Seems like it should always buzz or not.  I first thought it was when I contaminated the tungsten, but doesn't seem to matter on that.  I played around with the pulsing frequency and the pulse times and amperages, I still had a quiet arc on some welds.
Reply:I find that sometimes with high frequency pulsing it will be the piece that I'm welding that is actually vibrating on the welding table. Could this be the case on yours??- John
Reply:I don't think it's the steel.  I have it clamped between two pieces of 1/2 " steel, and I think it was buzzing as I completed the weld.  I'll check again tomorrow though.
Reply:In any case congrats on your new toy - John
Reply:Thanks! it is sweet - been using a Syncrowave 250 and the Dynasty is 1/10 the size - and all the settings are done with one knob and about 6 buttons, digital display shows amps set from 1 to 200A in 1 amp increments - and frequency is the same way.
Reply:I know how you feel, I am a relative newcomer to tig with an invertig 201 from HTP that is the same way (front panel wise). Nice machines, aren't they? What a loser I am being excited about a welder  Oh well I don't care.- John

Reply:Hey thanks for the support, I feel better already !!!
Reply:Duhhh,  I figured out why it buzzes sometimes and not others.  It's because I was turning the DC pulsing on and off without realizing it If the DC pulsing is on, it buzzes.  On straight DC, it is a very quiet weld.  My welder has the fan on demand - welding down in the 40amp range with an air cooled torch it is very quiet in my shop.  The DC pulsing really does make a difference in the weld, i think.
