Hi All!I'm thinking of developing a new welding app (that is worth it). Just realized the rest are not helpful and a waste of download. Any suggestions on which kind of app you would like to see? Regards,Adam
Reply:I don't think a smart phone has enough power to strike an arc.Just sayin'...
Reply:Android based please. It needs to be aimed at newbies, so the following would be a start:Get the welding calculators from Miller for all three processes. They're $4 a piece. That's a good start. Also useful:Pictoral directory of welding joints and fitupsDefiniton of DC+, DC-, DCEP, DCENBasic info about different rods (6011, 6010, 6013, 7018, 7024, etc) including usages, positions, storage, etc.A section about safety including chlorinated brake cleaner and galvanized.A big illustrated section with examples of weld bead issues (too fast, too slow, too hot, too cold, arc length, etc) with different types of rods. This would be cool, but not sure about legalities, a search function that would lead you directly to threads here on WW.That's off the top of my head. I'm sure there is more.

Reply:You gotta see it. The pictures are the key to a good app, IMO. Somebody with a lot of experience doesn't need an app. The person who needs it is probably in their garage and doesn't have anyone to show them what they are doing wrong, or what it looks like when it is right.Look at how many threads here are exactly the same: How's my weld? Same answers: Too hot. Too slow. Etc.Pictures will be crucial to a successful app.
Reply:Forney's welding manual from the 70's has a good section on the joints and definitions of them. Take a look at that for a template.
Reply:Ha ha I'm sure it won't strike an arc.
Reply:But the suggestions are great. I'll look into Miller Calculators.I can draw amazing graphics and I have a team of graphic designers too Maybe I can help you finish it? PM me and we can talk details.

Reply:Man, you can take this pretty far. I always said in the past, if you can watch a pro actually weld, you can try and duplicate it. If you wanted to go the distance, have short videos of a pro in action for each of the processes and in all positions. I can weld, but I consider my self a rookie. I would like to see how the pros do it. I don't know if that is possible. I would probably be willing to pay $10 for a REALLY intense app.And from the manufacturers, I would like to see all of the filler metal spec sheets and all their info."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Just google it on your phone.
Reply:gotta love it when someone who just joined the forum PMs you on behalf of their 'team' of 'developers' and 'artists' ... you answer the questions and then you don't hear anything back. Someone's just fishing to make a buck.....ESAB Heliarc 252
Reply:I'm still here. I haven't started the development project yet. Just analyzing the options posted here. Thank you all for the replies and ideas. I have to sketch this out carefully. Don't want to develop another useless app.
Reply:BlauSchuhI haven't checked your message yet. Sorry for the delay! Hope all is well. |
