Hello to all I am welding together a wood stove for my garage and have a question please. I have it built but I am having one heck of a time trying to locate a flue collar for it. I have searched everywhere and cant locate one, its the part that sets on top of the stove that you connect the chimney pipe to. I have even thought about getting a 6 inch steel pipe and welding it to the top but cant find one of them either. Any help would be appreciated.Calvin Attached Images
Reply:Do you have access to a roller or know anybody that has one, You just need to roll out a piece of flat stock to the size you need.Rob H.

Reply:It looks kinda like a Safe disguised as an old kitchen stove; just don't keep your paper money inside and forget which it is! BTW, when you do get done, you might want to clean it up a bit and put some of the high-temperature spray paint on it to both keep it from rusting, and decorate the shop!
Reply:it doesn't take much, looks like you could make one. if your stove pipe is 6 " and you can't find a short length of pipe. draw a 6" circle on a bench or some flat plate. then get some flat strap like 1/8 by 2 inch would be enough. tack it on the line and with a little heat bend a little then tack again. go around till you have a circle cut it loose and start a fire. alot of times you cand bend a strap around a smaller piece of pipe without heat and it works great also
Reply:oldiron a friend of mine said the same thing looks like a safe, and I am going to grind it all down when finished and use the ht paint on it.It should heat good it sure is big enough. norsky63, I was everywhere today and cant find a piece of pipe anywhere so I am going to try what you said and make my own. Thanks ev eryone for all your help.Calvin
Reply:I think it looks good and would only offer you one piece of advise - the handle you have there is going to get awfully hot sticking out there that way. I would be inclined to cut it off left of the latch point and add a link of chain or two so the solid handle part can hang down. Other than that, let 'er rip.
Reply:I made my own too. I don't know why but it won't draw for nothin. I extended the pipe above the roofline about 3' but it still won't draw?? Sorry for the hijack, thought someone might have some suggestionsDewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools

Reply:There is no hijack littlefuzz I am glad you jumped in here. If not for these boards I dont know what some of us would do. I tried norsky63's advise and made my own 6 inch collar today mig welded it on and we fired it up for the first time. It worked great took no time at all to warm up the 2 car garage and after fiddling with the stove pipe damper and the crazy safe dial I put on it for air that thing about run us out of there tonight. I am going to give it a couple good burns then clean it up and spray wood stove black high temp on it then I'll post another pic of it on here.Littlefuzz Id try what Road Warrior said about the holes start small then see what happens. On mine I bore a 4 inch round hole at the center bottom of the door and welded in a cross piece insde and drilled and tapped a 3/8 inch hole to screw in the air flow damper.Road Warrior your right the handle did get a little warm, I have a 5/8 inch solid round bar for the handle and slid over top of it a brass lamp neck to dress it up a bit plus there is a little slop in it so the heat would dissipate a little. Thanks everyone for all your ideas I really appreciate your help.Calvin
Reply:My Jotul had a cool trick. It was very airtight, but had about 6 small holes (1/4"?) near the top along the back. But the air had to travel up from the bottom between the back and a second plate about 1/2 inch apart. So once the stove got good and hot, you shut down the main damper, and the stove started to draw superheated air through these holes. Reply:Wow that sounds pretty neat, well here is a pic of it finished and connected up in the garage, I want to put one more can of 1200 degree stove black on it yet. We fired it up this evening and wow some kind of heat came out of it and burned nice and slow to what ever you set the screw in damper. Attached Images
