Ok guys-I just bought a Hobart Handler 187 and just had a question..Can I run this thing without using gas or do I need the gas as well?ThanksJeff - the UberNewb.
Reply:You can run it without gas using flux core wire. Just read the instructions on polarity in the manual.

Reply:mig means inert gas coverage..this is the flux that protects the weld from oxidation..it is best used indoors..the wire is solid..fluxcore is a tubular wire with flux inside very similar/opposite to stick electrodes..it is used for outdoors since the gas wont blow away..good luck.
