Seems these days, you eighter have it,or you dont, if you dont you eighter build it, or pay someone else to build it for you.  We got a quote from someone to build and install a gate like this... around 14k thats when we decided to build it ourselfs.. so far we have approx 500 bucks in materials. 400 bucks for a millermatic 200.  So far so good.  The frame on the large door is 14 gage 1.5" tube and 5/8"  bars in the middle 16gageSmall door is 1 1/4 tubing and same tubes int the middle.  16" gage sheet metal on the bottom placed in the middle.. ( we cut that with a small jigg saw with a metal blade) worked like a charm.Here is a gate my dad and i recently built for his house, not yet finished,  still have to put in a lock on both gates, but that shouldn't be too hard. Reply:No... those were purchased.. they are aluminum, and they have a small metal plate in the back that you can weld them to the tube.

Reply:Yes we are going to paint them, so far we just got a gallon of metal primer from kelly more paints and we're going to clean up all the rust before we spray it.  As for the color, we dont know yet.  My dad has some funky ideas that he wants to do with the color, so i'll post the end result here.    By the way we were going to put knuckles on the small gate towards the bottom but only woke up to the idea once we finished it and started on the larger one. So we just left it like thatAnd Yah, we were surprised when we got the quote... and seems that everybody else is around the same price.  The bending was the hardest part,  i picked up 20" tube, put my knee on it and slowly and slowly bent it to hape.  Ok thats not how it happened, we took it over to a friend of my dads and he bent them for us.  One of my first posts on here was asking to see pictures of tube bending machines... we wanted to build one from scratch.. This guy has a very simple machine. The only drawback is that it takes 2 people to operate it. Its 3 large rollers almost solid steel. diameter is probably around 9" and 9 inch tall.  2 of them are operated by a motor that is  started and stopped by a switch on the floor and the other one is moved by a 1 ton jack (or something like that.Looks like this from the top the bottom ones are powered  and there  the top one is moved by that jack.  I've seen those people roll all types of metal on it even used to straighten a 20" piece.  ANyways... i got everyhting together to build that machine, i just cant find those solid rollers.  Let me know if you guys know where i can find it. - O   O  OLast edited by Bucilini; 04-03-2009 at 10:04 PM.

Reply:We really didn't keep track becuase we wernt in a hurry to finish, we started a while back just couldnt find the right time to continue.  i would say maybe 10 hours so far.

Reply:that looks awesome..I wish i had the time and space to do large projects..  I dont know what your location is but for myself, I would even go as far as using por15 on it so there's zero chance of rust.Someone needs to make an auto-darkening Predator welding helmet...complete with dreads and multiple spectra of IR vision.
