Reply:Now that Im a Tig-a-holic I look at my early SMAW welds and cringe. Was wondering whether there are any real complications in "rewelding/reheating" the previous welds to smooth/clean them up?ThermalArc 185MillerMatic 180 w/ AutosetVictor Cutskill Oxy/AcetyleneThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38and spite!
Reply:Grind them off almost to the breaking point and do them over again..Even then the results will be questionable...Sometimes...I have to go over tacks done with 7018 with the tig..Any slag left over..even if you can't see it... Or get all new material and start over....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Thanks. That's what I figured, but didnt know if the different rod/wire would have any problems or if they are all compatible...figured that the slag would be a drag no matter what. Fortunately, its a project that doesnt HAVE to be pretty, but my overly anal personality says it simply must be better than my violent "welds of yore".ThermalArc 185MillerMatic 180 w/ AutosetVictor Cutskill Oxy/AcetyleneThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38and spite! |
