i have a 30 ft toyhauler id like to convert ot a goosneck to also add storage to the front as well as tow better. i can attatch to the existing frame with 5x4 box tubing. the welding part isnt the issue. layout to make it go down the road straight is the hardest part. im going to cut the frame off at the front of the trailer where it sticks out past the nose a little. plenty of room to work. then weld a bulldog adj hitch to the gooseneck.i need to make it all line up right. i will start by leveling the trailer but ill be wingin it after that so any help would be great.thanks guysi havent cut into it yet but im gathering materials now. shouldnt be too big a job really. just need to make sure the tongue runs true...centerlined if you will. thansgary
Reply:Find the center of the trailer at the front, go back 10 or 12 feet and find the centerline between the frame rails underneath. connect the two with a piece of angle or square tube and let it protrude out the front a little more that where your bull dog will locate. now measure the diagonals from the same point at each front corner to the straight edge running up the middle and take your goose neck locations off the center. Reply:Brainfarth did an excellent tongue repair on a pup trailer. Somebody might know the thread. It was all about finding the centerline. I haven't had to do anything like this, but I got ideas on how to do it, and that ain't the same as actually having done it. So it's out of my league.I hope somebody can find Brainfarth's thread."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:thats kinda th method is was gonna use. i bought a manuf gooseneck from bray trlr and it dont track strait. no big deal really but yud think the man could get it right. im ure ill spend more time lining things up than they do. its gonna be about 8 ft long by the time it gets done. i was thinkin i might do it over the top of the current tagalong and then cut off the old one...for alingment purposes that might help
Reply:I think you would want to use the axles in your centering, Because thats how it's going to go down the road.

Reply:Drop a plumbob or use the level, after trailer is leveled, from the corners of the frame at the back & at the front, both sides. Strike a line with the chalk box for each line. find the center at the back and at the front, strike another line for the center line, only extend it past the point of the hitch. Now, when you're centering the gooseneck frame, use a plumb bob to find the center for the frame. I'm assuming a cement slab is present, altho the blue or yellow chalk will either work in the dirt, just not as well. The center line is what is needed to do this correctly.
