I have a CK17R torch and wanted to get the "Gas saver series" kit. Since it is also offered with the Pyrex cup (and I need all the help I can get), I thought that would be the way to go. At my local weld supply place, they said that it has become a one-time use as the Pyrex turns black. Is this true? What has been the experience for any of you? TIA
Reply:I assume it may become "dirty" with metal vapor and spatter. Spatter should not an issue in TIG unless the puddle pops and spits due to contamination or whatever. The metal vapor could probably be removed with a light acid, such as common Muriatic (we do this to EBW windows). Not being sure about this, I would call and ask CK Worldwide who sells the Gas Saver.http://www.ckworldwide.com/gas_saver.htm
Reply:Ive got the htp version. Its pretty cool. It does get little specks in it after a while, but Ive had no problem with it turning black. It will break if dropped though, that has happened to me.Various GrindersVictor Journeyman torch200cf Acet. 250cf oxygenLincoln 175 plus/alpha2 gunLincoln v205t tigLincoln 350mpEsab 650 plasmaWhen you can get up in the morning, Its a good day.Live each day like its your last.
Reply:Roger V One thing about the Pyrex cups you will not be able to walk the cup with them. They will milt at lest the Pyrex cups that I tried did. Lefty Lucas
Reply:Thanks to all. I'll call and see what they say. I'm assuming that the specs don't prevent seeing through the cup?
Reply:Called CK and talked to their tech guy. Said it would not turn black and that they were thinking of quartz that would turn black. Agreed that specks could be imbedded from spatter but wouldn't prevent seeing through. Also, mentioned not walking the cup which would melt as mentioned. Highly breakable so care needed. Again, thanks for the suggestions. |
