Hey folks,Anybody have recommendations for a good TIG video or book that would help with some of those infinite "finer points."I'm looking for something in like the $30 range (can't go for like a $200 video series or text book). My TIG welds are coming along OK, but there's so much to learn.  Right now I'm having a lot of trouble with inside corners on 1/8" angle.  I can't get the torch and the wire into the corner with any "finesse" and it seems almost impossible (I'm getting welds but the penetration is very poor -- if I crank it up I burn through the corner).  A video with somebody showing to do this would likely help a whole lot.Another thing I came across (thanks to you guys) is how tungsten shape affects penetration and when I tried different grinds on some sheet metal, the differences make clear that stuff like that is critical and there is a lot to learn (seems that the pointy grind small included angle (like my head) is what is needed).  Thanks.
Reply:Hit Millers site at www.millerwelds.com/education and look through the TIG stuff. They have a good compilation of tips and pointers. Other than that, the only other thing that helps is seat time....practice.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:http://www.millerwelds.com/education/TIGhandbook/You can download each chapter of Miller's GTAW handbook right there.  Go up a page (to the education center) and you can also buy it in hardcopy, but if you want one, just get the whole student package for a great deal.
Reply:For setting up TIG, a good starting point rule of thumb is 1 amp per .001" thickness, at 4-5ipm travel speed.  That is how I set up orbital tig welders, and it works fairly good for hand welds too.  Use a foot pedal to dial it in though.  Also, this is with a 3:1 high/low current pulse ratio.
Reply:Just watched the Ron Covell video - thought it was pretty good stuff. Rented it through www.smartflix.com.Covered the basics real well & he was using the machine I own (Miller 200DX Dynasty), which was a bonus! Nice to see SOMEONE can weld with one of those!
