120v mig

Who likes their 120volt mig machines,? Are they for hobby or worth the investment?  ANyone use these exclusively?
Reply:I have one.And no I dont use it exclusively.. I dispise it.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I like mine.. very handy.  For what I do, it's plenty.  Mostly light fab and sheetmetal.  For heavier stuff, I fire up the Dyansty and TIG or stick it.For what it's worth, it's a Millermatic 135.  Bought mainly cause I wanted Portability and able to run off my generator if I felt the urge to.

Reply:I've had a MM130 (Dad does now), a HH135 (Friend has it now), and now a Millermatic Passport (for sale) which runs more on 120V than it does 240V.  The Passport is still out of their league because its inverter allows it to outshine all the others even on a 120V circuit.But these machines are excellent WITHIN their limitations.  They excel at sheet metal and narrow-wall steel tubing.  For non-structural applications they do 1/8" very well in GMAW and 3/16" in FCAW.You can make a lot of money with one, but stay away from the trailer hitches, please.
Reply:ZAP'S dosent count he has a cheepo flux core only one, held togather with welding clamps...but then again he is still using it so maybe that's some thing to be considerd.i have the MM135 also, had it for over 6 years and its been verry usefull. with proper prep it can handle a great deal. i put togather my 22'X20' 2 story shop with mine along with many other projects and repairs. i have more than gotten my $$ back out of it many, many times over. i have never regretted getting it or the choice of the one i got. Reply:Hey 8angus,I've had a Miller Sidekick 110v 90A MIG welder for years. It is the sweetest welder for sheetmetal and up to 1/4", although I've had to use it on thicker with multi-pass on several occasions. I use it exclusively for the sheetmetal, floorpans, trunkpans, kick panels and any other thin metal on the classic cars I do restorations. I use .023, ER70S-6, C-25 for this type work.
