This must be disc day (See Shortarc's "Farm Machinery Repair" thread).Buy two, and you get a disc-ountAnyhow..... this rolled, actually got dragged into the "shop" today. It's a 1940's vintage one way disc. 24" plates, and 10' wide. Pretty heavy little dude.Once I cut it out of the bushes and trees, it was easy(yeah right) to drag it on inA full restoration is in order. Mainly the wheels. Originally these had iron wheels. The wheels were modified by the previous owner (It's a one owner disc before I got it). I picked it up at auction for $35 dollars about 6 years back. It went for scrap price, but it's basicly pristine except for the wheels.Pic 1.... Peekin' outta the bushesPic2.... Breaking it free from the dirt, vines, bushes, and wild rosesPic3.... The Draggin' Wagon doin' some draggin'. Yup, the front wheels can defy gravityPic4... The solution to the miraculous levitation problem. Sorry, didn't take actual pics of the actual deal, but had my hands full at the time. The principle is to lift the implement to reduce friction when pulling, while lowering the actual pulling point to keep the tractor on the ground. It worksPic5.... A future land rippin' manglin' tearin' machine ready for a little TLCMore pics to follow. (never short on pics)BTW- This is a good ol' MADE IN USA Moline. Reply:The cosmetic problemsA note to y'all that might be looking to buy older discs. To judge the wear on the plates, look at the clearance between the plate and the beam. It it's close to the beam, it's hardly worn. If there's a lot of space between the beam and the disc, walk away from it.This machine is nearly "new" Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Samm, does that have mechanical lift or hyd. I spent a lot of time as a kid pulling an old 6' disc w/ the mech lift. Had the rope tied to the back of the tractor seat. Pull once to lift it and pull again to drop it. Those were the good ole days???? When I worked for the farm in Idaho pulling a 36' chisel plow w/ a 300 HP tractor, I often thought," Boy, you've come a long way from that old "H" and that 6' one way". Reply:I had figured on using the discs to make a small offset one day. Now I'm stuck rehabing the disc as it was made"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:What I gotta do is figure a way around this mess, which ain't there on the machine I have(not a moline manual) Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Settled on hyd lift with cylinder base attached to main beam that supports the gang. Have to make a provision for adjusting the mount in order for the cyl to stay in line with the ground wheel axle as it's adjusted. Be easier to modify the ground wheel axle top plate, but I'm not sure the relatively light angle supporting it would take the stress. A cylinder between the main beam, and the ground axle would act as a strut to absorb the shock of the axle traveling over the ground. The main beam has been drilled to accept something, I'm pretty sure it was something of this nature. Be nice to see what was there in the first placeOnly alternative would be a sector and long leverToday's a wash though Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/ |
