I personally don't like working with channel. It's the pits to fit when joining sections.It's actually pretty straightforward for idiots like meMeasure your flange width, cut the flange back to the measurement you came up with, then use a piece of identical scrap channel as a template to mark your inside cut to match the inside "C" of the channel.You Will Become Friends With Your Grinder. All cuts can be roughed with the torch, but the fine tune is all about the grinderGotta few gaps, don't worry.... It's what they make filler material forOn a butt joint like this(where the flanges meet), I find it's better to weld the backside with a fillet, then gouge the front side to achieve a full penetration weld on the flange. This depends on whether it's possible to do this in the position the steel is, or ease of getting to it.
