Hey Guild Members,I don't know how many of you realize that there is a lot of work in the food processing industry for equipment repair and fab guys, but if any of you are thinking about trying it out I suggest you read what they look for in terms of sanitary welds and design. I read this article from the food safety magazine and thought it would be of interest to some of you out there thinking about bidding on one of these jobs. http://www.foodsafetymagazine.com/ar...d=926&sub=sub1The photos are wild I just wish that they were larger. If you are looking at getting into this, or the pharmaceutical, field don't be the guy/gal who lays a weld that leads to the next peanut-butter or hot dog recall! My Personal belief is that the safest products for human consumption are beer and funyuns so throw em' down if you got them! Now I have to figure out what's for breakfast tomorrow?
Reply:I did a lot of repair work in resteraunts and nursing home kitchens. Its tough to get paid, so I don't do it anymore.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Food manufacturers and the equipment suppliers are the ticket. Grannie's "rest house commissary" or her favorite Sunday restaurant might definitely have some cash flow/greed issues, but grandma's favorite large cookie or soup manufacturing plant will typically pay within 30-45 days ! The sad thing is that I here from my buddies that GM is at 120 days payable to its tier 2 guys and subcontractors...I can't even imagine what that is like!! "Hey GM I did a lot of fab work for you in January...can you be sure to pay me and my employees sometime in May so we can have a spring vacation?!?!" WTF?!?! No one should have to live like that while somebody is earning interest on their wages! |
