I am new to the forum .a 20+ year refrigeration mech have done a lot of brazing coper steel and such.dipping into welding a lot more in the last 3 years. I have a question about nickel silver brazing since I mostly use silver and silver copper alloys. I have begun to work on some art project with scrap pieces of dissimilar metals I found some nickel silver alloy really cheap at a garage sale wonder if it would work with stainless steel , copper ,steel and aluminum . any info would be useful thanks.
Reply:It should work well. Try to locate some SS flux; it's an acid base, and it is usually liquid. Some good SS flux paste is out there that works very well. Remember to try and keep the heat low at first; too hot changes everything with carbon inclusion and wasting away the flux; it's hard to make good on the braze that way.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:I've had no luck with that on stainless, and it melts WAY hotter than aluminum. You may be able to get it to bond copper to steel. It's tricky, but doable.
Reply:Do you know which alloy it is? That would help alot.Otherwise knowing it is a high temp/high strength filler, I would use the Black flux as opposed to white. The black has a higher operating temp.Careful if it has Cadmium in the alloy. Cadmium is very good but also highly toxic.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:Thanks for the reply appreciate it.
Reply:Hi and thanks for the info any other help would be appreciated.
Reply:Hi it is karraloy flux coared nickel silver brazing rod 1/8 in diameter. I also picked up so cronabraze 45 would this work better. Thanks in advanc |
